Distributing school supplies in Sigma

We spent the morning at Juan Aldea Elementary School in Barangay Oyong in Sigma during the last week of January. Together with the Rice and Shoes Program of Monique Albar-Jen, we distributed school supplies and packs of rice to 185 children. Some of the children also received shoes to replace torn and worn shoes and slippers. Amie Guisinga, the school's Principal, coordinated the event.

We took this hanging bridge from the school after our distribution. We got out of our multicab and walked across the bridge to minimize the load of the multicab. Glad it held up. We couldn't go back through the same road we took earlier because it was so rutted and slippery, our jeep could have gotten stuck again. Glad we made it. The kids, teachers and their parents were happy we came. So were we. It was a great day!

We are excited for the school's library to reopen in the new school year. Balay ni Charie and Monique Albar-Jen have collected children's books from friends to donate to the library. We're encouraged by the dedication shown by the Principal to have a library where the kids can learn to read and spend time with their favorite books.
